#Microblog Mondays: Less can be more

I was always the kid who, when the teacher asked for a paragraph, would turn in a three-page story. ;)  Even as a working journalist/communicator, sticking to word counts has always been a huge struggle for me.

So I guess it's not surprising that the concept of "microblogging" might be a challenge. ;)  (This could also be why I have resisted signing up for Twitter, with its 140-character limit, lol.)

I started a couple of posts for this week's #Microblog Mondays that became too long to be considered "microblogging."  (I have published them separately, or will.)  Sometimes I have to remind myself that less can be more.

It's a challenge, but I'm working on it. ;)

You can find more #Microblog Mondays posts for this week here.

  1. This exact reason is why I have't taken the Microblog Monday challenge yet!

  2. I know, I'm the same. But it can be done. :-)

  3. Ha -- so when I first wrote up the explanation, I capped it at five sentences. Then I looked at my first post and it was many more than 5 :-) Now I just say brief as a guide.

I too had a post idea that turned too long. And another idea that felt too short. Like it said nothing in that tiny space.

  4. I have to laugh at this. As you no doubt have noticed, I'm very wordy too!

I love the discipline of a short post though. My very first blog - - was a daily blog (for a year) on a person I'd known in my life, using only the number of words for my age. So when I did it, I was writing 44 words a day! Now that was tough. But the discipline and creativity required for 44 words a day was amazing. I miss it. And as you can see, I write comments longer than 44 words, or MicroblogMondays eight sentences!

  5. Haha… I've got a handful of posts that started as Microblogs but unexpectedly turned out far too long and will be posted separately. But hey, it's gotten the blog juices going and that's the whole point, right?

  6. I know what you mean...I find it difficult to stick to word limits too...

  7. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE...this post also makes me laugh. :-)
