#MicroblogMondays: Odds & ends

The book project is going pretty well. To date, we've hauled 21 (!!) liquor store cartons full of books to the Salvation Army. (Plus a big garbage bag full of stuffed animals and a 30-year-old, seldom-used toaster oven that's been driving dh crazy by taking up too much cupboard space in the kitchen.)  There are still some books sitting on the floor, but the difference is notable, and it's starting to look much tidier/more spacious down there.
*  Aunt Flo is here. Again. Right on schedule. And I feel like crap. :p  You would think 43 years of this would be enough? :p  I have not been sleeping well lately either, which I understand can also be chalked up to (peri)menopause.
*  Looking forward to the day when I can add my books on peri/menopause to the Sally Ann pile. ;)
*  It has been pouring rain all through the night and this morning.  We've had some sun on & off the last few days, but the weather has not been overly warm to date. Which is good in one way, I suppose, but the in-between-ness is frustrating at times. It's not cold enough to have the furnace on, but it's not warm enough for the air conditioning to kick in too often either. And speaking of not sleeping well -- if I pull up the quilt on the bed, I get too hot;  if I don't have it on, at least partway up the bed, I sometimes get too cold. And the towels in the bathroom never completely dry out, so they get musty, and I have to remember to change them more frequently. Bah, humbug.
*  Dh & I have been to a couple of good movies lately. Last weekend, we went to see "Tomorrowland" with George Clooney.  We didn't have many expectations as to what it was about -- and it turned out to be a kids' movie (Disney -- you think we would have clued in...) -- but we both enjoyed it a lot.
*  This weekend, we went to see "Spy" with Melissa McCarthy and a very funny Jason Statham. (Who knew??)  Two thumbs up.

  1. What a clearing out! That's a lotta books (and liquor store cartons!)

Thanks for the commentary on both movies. I've been considering Tomorrowland but am on the fence.

  2. I want to see Spy! Nice to read that it's good. I love me a good comedy. ;) *ahem* and about perimenopause...I'm wondering if I'm going thru something too considering I'm 41, still regular (so annoying for that to happen when infertile), but other weird crap is happening. It's all so vague...

    1. Just to clarify -- I am 54. :p I got my first period when I was 11, so Aunt Flo has been hanging around 43 (yes, 43) years. Long enough, wouldn't you say? My ob-gyn is not overly concerned -- he says I am not alone, although I am definitely past the average age when menopause generally kicks in. Figures. :p

    2. Has your ob-gyn checked your FSH? Just to make sure there's no other reason they're continuing? (I'm sure he has - but I was continuing to be regular, until my last gory year, when my FSH levels apparently showed I shouldn't have been bleeding at all.)

    3. Actually he hasn't. At least, not lately (I know they checked it when I was in fertility treatments, but that was quite awhile ago), and while I've been pretty regular, nothing too out of the ordinary in terms of gore. ;) He did say at my most recent checkup that he definitely wanted to see me back in a year's time.

  3. Well done with the book project!! You are inspiring me to do the same thing with clothes.

Grey and I want to see Tomorrowland, so would love to hear your thoughts. And thanks for the movie recommendation on "Spy."

    1. It's definitely Disney -- kind of corny in parts (especially at the end) -- but it also had me teary eyed at the very end too. Parts of it touch on NASA & the space program, and that's right up dh's alley, so he loved it. It makes a good point about how everything to do with the future is so dark & dystopian these days -- and how at one time, we looked to the future with hope & excitement, and how do we get to that point again?

    2. We went and saw it on the basis of Loribeth's recommendation! It was good. I liked that the action scenes weren't endless (as adult movies often think is necessary), and that there were definite story sequences (again I get very disappointed with adult movies these days which don't have much of a storyline).

  4. Want to come over here and do my books next? :-) I am terrible at making decisions about the books. Getting rid of the doubles was easy. After that... I sort of stalled.

    1. It's been hard -- & at the same time, I'm surprised at how much I've been able to do, once I got started. When I first began, I thought, "I will never get rid of these ones." But after a day or two, out they went. Somehow the idea got easier the longer I sat with it. If I have the e-version and the paper version, the paper version has (mostly) gone. I have/had tons of books that I read 20+ years ago & haven't touched since, so a lot of those have gone. I had some books I was hanging onto because dh had given them to me and inscribed. If I wasn't interested in the book anymore and could rip out the page with the inscription to save elsewhere, I did that. I also did away with a lot of cookbooks. I have kept some (my junior high home ec cookbook, my mother's church group cookbooks, with some of her recipes in them, etc.), but I figure I barely look at most of these & I can get tons of recipes on the Internet. Etc. etc...!

  5. Well done on the book culling project!

I agree with you that 43 years is more than enough and Aunt Flo should vacate your uterus permanently, like now! I've always had difficulty sleeping, but since August when the peri-menopause thing hit like a freight train, it's been so much worse. The only effective thing I've found for the hot/cold thing is to have a small fan in the room, blowing in my direction, but not directly on me to keep the air circulating, and I had to ditch my adorable (but heavy) comforter for a less cute but much lighter weight quilt.

I think that Spy looks so funny, but I'll probably wait until it comes out in Redbox because hubs doesn't usually care for comedies.

  6. I am 54 and will celebrate 55 in July. I am hoping this is the year that will pass without a visit ( even a scant one) from Flo or any of her sisters, cousins, or BFFs. So. Done.

Grand job with the books. I've been paring down for the better part of this year. Hoping to move them out to the library collection bin before the annual sale in August.

  7. I am sleeping so much better now thanks to HRT! The difference is unbelievable. Mind you, I find I'm still tossing blankets on and off all night, though nowhere as bad as it was this time last year.

My husband is the one with the book problem. He packed some up in boxes, but can't bring himself to give them away. I'm very impressed with your progress! Of course, e-readers completely changed our bookshelves - they stopped in time about five years ago.
