Alas, I'll be about 64 or 65 when I retire... and I'll have to wait til 67 to collect the OAS now too. Ugh. Sheesh, by that time they may have it raised to 70! Grab it while you can girl! Do not wait. Do NOT pass Go. But definitely collect your $200 and laugh all the way to the bank. Loribeth, you HAVE earned it. Take it. Enjoy it. Smile as you roll over in the morning and snuggle back down for a snooze. Grin as you lift a glass of wine some summer evening for dinner. You definitely have earned it and you should enjoy it to the absolute fullest.

Heck, maybe your hubby wants to be a financial advisor for me and my Hubby??! We're definitely in the market for one!

Sending hugs and love. Both told me they wished they had done it earlier & told me not to wait if I thought I could swing it.

@Mali: Every time I get asked at work where I want to go & what I see myself doing in 5 years, I have to bite my tongue not to say, "retired," lol. Years ago, a brother-in-law was asked by a boss where he wanted to be in five years time. "Retired" was his response (he was in his early 40s at the time). His boss was not amused. But I could appreciate the sentiment.

Whilst not retired as such, I am self-employed and currently that means under-employed. I can highly recommend having some leisure time - I never have the time to do the things I want to do, and can never understand anyone who says they're bored when they don't work.

Unfortunately we haven't worked consistently at the same companies, and so don't have pension schemes through work, and so our savings will have to fund our retirement, along with a supplement from NZ's nation pension which will kick in at 65 or possibly later by the time we get there. We travel, because we love it, and we figure there's no point assuming we can do it when we're retired. But that's a financial decision, and we still manage to save.

Happy Birthday to your DH!Malihttp://nokiddinginnz.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3178366214524455884.post-17175936706775466262012-04-13T22:47:07.005-04:002012-04-13T22:47:07.005-04:00You've earned it by being a hard worker who ma...You've earned it by being a hard worker who made good money choices. I don't know if I'll ever retire. I don't really have a job that I need to retire from -- and I can't see myself wanting to retire from it. At least not now. Ask me again down the road.

Happy birthday to your husband!Lollipop Goldsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01020874415819057995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3178366214524455884.post-50406473035985298272012-04-13T22:08:06.548-04:002012-04-13T22:08:06.548-04:00I think you have.
