Sometimes I can get over a plotline that's a little too close, and sometimes I figure the book is not worth the collateral damage. I feel like I started a similar book (or maybe it was this one, or was it The Memory Keeper's Daughter? Similar feeling title) and gave it back to the person who lent it to me after the first chapter. No thank you. I'll pass on the movie, too. If you're feeling raw at all - maybe skip it. If you're ok, then try it. I am glad I read it - it was a good read - but sad.Rach Vhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06475643904759868261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3178366214524455884.post-76879337769335022872016-08-18T21:24:09.351-04:002016-08-18T21:24:09.351-04:00Based on the book blurb (and the less than glowing...Based on the book blurb (and the less than glowing reviews here), I'd skip the book. But I love both actors, so maybe the movie would be good? I would have to be in the right mood/frame of mind to see it, though.Brookehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05946311309467296976noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3178366214524455884.post-87555021761909776922016-08-18T05:08:26.715-04:002016-08-18T05:08:26.715-04:00I gave it 3 out of 5 but didn't write a review...I gave it 3 out of 5 but didn't write a review. I remember it was anti-climactic after I'd read such good reviews about it. I didn't find it moving and it obviously wasn't very memorable. I like island settings and books about isolation but the plot about the child didn't really grab me. I recommend going straight to the film. I read The Tenderness of Wolves around the same time and absolutely adored that.https://differentshoresblog.wordpress.com/https://www.blogger.com/profile/16936131757889957955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3178366214524455884.post-82606971798375560992016-08-18T04:54:10.338-04:002016-08-18T04:54:10.338-04:00I have read it! Do they find a baby in a boat or something and pretend it's their own? I'll report back. I remember dying to read it but being underwhelmed, and it did not make me cry as promised in reviews.https://differentshoresblog.wordpress.com/https://www.blogger.com/profile/16936131757889957955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3178366214524455884.post-5057299244988992952016-08-17T21:36:41.039-04:002016-08-17T21:36:41.039-04:00It's been in my pile, I started reading it and...It's been in my pile, I started reading it and put it down. I didn't find it upsetting as much as tiresome - that 'sigh. Yes. All women who can't have children inherently become crazy. None of us go on to live normal and healthy lives'.
