Crap...

Just got a notice when I tried to open my Google Reader that it will no longer be available after July 1st. :(  I have been using Google Reader almost since I started blogging. I have more than 500 (!!) subscriptions -- albeit not all of them active any more (and not all ALI-related).

Any suggestions for an alternative?? :(

What a pain. :p

  1. I've been using Bloglovin' after someone recommended it on one of the sites I read (can't remember which). Use it both on my PC and my iPad - and it's pretty good. Don't know how hard it will be to swop all your blogs to it though!

  2. This is startling news. I use Reader for all of my blog following. I didn't get a notice though. I just read an article that said things could be archived in Google Take Out but now that I've don't that, I wonder how I can continue to follow blogs? Why would Google discontinue such a useful item? This is really irritating. Thank you for the PSA btw!

  3. Thank you for the PSA. I received no notice! How are we to access blogs?? I read a quick article that said Google Take Away would work for archiving but now that I've done that, I wonder how I can continue to read my blogs? This is sooooo irritating!

  5. So far I'm successfully using two alternatives to test them out. Old Reader (http://theoldreader.com/) and NetVibes (http://www.netvibes.com).

If you want to try out Old Reader, you will be prompted to sign in with your Google Account and grant access to your account for the purposes of importing feeds and the like. It doesn't appear to use any other data (I have my Google profile locked down fairly heavily so it's obvious to me when data is called).

    Hope this helps!

  6. I am seriously bummed out as well:( When I did a quick internet search to see if someone had compared the various RSS feed engines (is that what they are called?!; the top article was one from a couple years ago when Google reader got over 60% of the vote! Well that was not much help!!
