Patrick Swayze died yesterday at the far too young age of 57. :( Aside from being a charismatic onscreen presence & a wonderful dancer, I think what I admired most about Swayze was that he was very happily married -- for something like 34 years! -- to the same woman, Lisa Niemi, whom he met at his mother's dance studio when he was 18 & she was just 14.
They had no children, and not entirely by choice: Lisa had two miscarriages, including one on Valentine's Day, 1990.
"We just missed our window; we got so focused on our world and our careers that we missed the boat," he told People magazine in 2007.
My heart goes out to her. : (
This is a terrible loss, for his wife-first, then for his extended family and friends, then for Hollywood. He was a great actor and now cancer took his life. Well, life is short and the unexpected does happen!
ReplyDeleteI just loved Patrick Swayze - I loved Ghost and Roadhouse and of course, Dirty Dancing. Have you seen City of Joy? That's another really good one where he shows some really good acting - funny, but people don't really mention that one. He was a true artist, he continued to work as long as he could, he was so dedicated. I saw him and his wife on TV once and they were so in love - it just made me love him even more.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to her as well. Dirty Dancing was probably my first movie obsession. At one time, I could recite the entire movie by memory. 'Cause, when you're 13, you don't have anything better to do than watch Dirty Dancing over and over and over . . .
ReplyDeleteNot only was he a great actor and dancer, he appeared to be a genuinely good person.
