Show & Tell: The angels wanna wear my red Olympic mittens...
In case you've been living under a rock the past few days, the Winter Olympics are now under way. In Vancouver, on the wet -- errr, west -- coast of my home & native land.
I marked the occasion of the opening ceremonies by donning my red Olympic mittens. I am not the only one. I am getting a huge kick out of watching the crowds at the outdoor events on TV, & seeing what looks like a sea of red mittens being waved in the air. I even saw one guy pointing to the white maple leaf after Maelle Ricker's awesome gold medal victory in the snowboard cross yesterday. For all that they have been so hard to find, I guess someone has been buying them -- last I heard, almost 3 million pairs have been sold.
I actually wrote about my red mittens and how I managed to scoop up a few precious pairs last week, but I couldn't resist putting up a picture of them for Show & Tell. : )

Olympics ? What Olympics ? Hehe
ReplyDeleteThose are great! Way to show your national spirit!
ReplyDeleteVery cool mittens!
ReplyDeleteJealous! Would love to get some of those mittens. Of course, I've always been a fan of Roots anyway ...
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout you and me and the Mr's head over to Vancouver and get the whole Olympic experience? LOL!
Em -- the mittens are actually from the Bay, which is the official Olympic outfitter this time around. Overall, I like the stuff Roots used to do a few years back better -- but I have to say, I LOVE my red mittens. : )
ReplyDeleteAt first I read they were from eBay and I was like, What? but then I saw that it said THE Bay. I'm a smart one.
ReplyDeleteThey are super cute and look very cozy.
I love those.
ReplyDeleteI love those mittens! I have a pair of red gloves but those mittens are better. Congrats to you for the Gold Medals on home turf. I'm not from there but it is very exciting!
ReplyDeleteI guess I do live under a rock - I haven't seen one olympic thingy! (except for the headlines that pop up on whatever internet page)
ReplyDeleteluv the mittens.
Those are great! Wish I could find some with the Union Jack on them. Or the St. George's flag. Hmm...going to have to go scour the internet now!
ReplyDeleteYEA! Thanks for sharing those! As a Canadian at heart but now living in the US, I have felt such immense pride for Canada this week. I just love turning on the tv and seeing all that red & white!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE them. Love them. Thought of all of you when you finally got to hear "O Canada" the other night during a medal ceremony for the first time on home soil!! How fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm not going nuts, but I'm watching a bit here and there. I'd love to go to Vancouver some day.
Cozy!! I'm going to have to pay more attention when I watch now to see if I can spot some.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed those mittens in the crowd, too, and I thought they were very cool! And what an appropriate souvenir. : )
ReplyDeleteLOVE them!! (show & tell)
ReplyDeleteMy husband looked up buying a few paris... while not that expensive and available the shipping was more than the mittens... too bad for us! Yay for you though! I love them!
ReplyDeleteI consider myself an honorary Canadian having grown up north of the border and enjoying many trips to Windsor, Toronto, and more recently to Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary. While I root for the US, I also cheer when the Canadians do well. Today's hockey game has me positively torn!
ReplyDeleteurgh, catching up here after weeks!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is always so rich, thank you SO MUCH for all that you write and share.
I am dismayed, we've not watched the Olympics at all!! Life has just been crazy and we lost our TV remote control. But I love your mittens, and like Tash, I'd love to visit Vancouver (again) one day.
