Dh & BIL are chomping at the bit to paint the condo -- the main space, anyway -- and to get it done before the arrival of the new furniture that we've ordered. I'll admit it's easier to paint now, before we get any more furniture that will need to be covered up with dropcloths & moved around, etc. -- but part of me thinks we should wait & then pick a colour that pulls everything together. Or am I just being picky?
Right now, the walls are a very pale shade of blue, almost an aqua shade. In some lights, it looks a bit grey. It really complements the sandy brown laminate wood floors & the black, grey & white (& stainless steel appliances) in the kitchen.
I've always been fond of blue, and the cool shade is a nice change from the warm colours we've had in our house for the past 26 years. And the building is only a little over a year old.
So why (re)paint?
First, it's not the greatest quality paint nor paint job -- and there are holes in the walls left by the previous owners' artwork, mirrors, photos, etc., that need to be filled and covered. And while I love the colour generally, I think maybe it's just a tad too pale. I'm thinking pale blue, again, but perhaps just a wee bit darker/more colour than what's on the walls right now. Right now, I'm dithering between two shades of light blue/grey. I was going to post links & have you all weigh in, but the colours on my screen actually bear NO resemblance to the paint chips in my hand -- argh!! :p
Decisions, decisions... (never my strong suit...!). :p ;) SIGH.

I have to laugh. We had to replace some window frames, and so need to paint them and repaint the ones that didn't need replacing. I'm very indecisive about colour. I have a friend who has used a colour consultant, and gets everything decided within weeks of moving in. I wish I was her! Good luck for the decision.
ReplyDeletePS. For what it's worth, I like blues/greys, and find them comforting and relaxing, so your choices sound good.
LOL... I actually used a colour consultant the last two times we painted the house. I thought it was well worth the money, and I really liked the suggestions she gave us (even though I wasn't too sure about some of them at first). But I didn't think it was worth calling her in for just one room.
DeleteI consulted with someone for our remodel on wall colors on your advice actually and I am so glad I did! The experts just see things normal people don't. And since we all spend so much time at home, well worth it I think :)
DeleteI see both points of view. They want to paint while it's easier to do so. You want to make sure it compliments the furniture.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to get swatches of cloth? Something to compare to the paint selection? Also, go warmer. Even with blue, get something on the warmer side. And think accent walls (they really help things pop).
Good luck!
I see both points of view too. It will be interesting to see who "wins" this argument.
ReplyDeleteMy unsolicited painting advice (since I have very recent experience on this particular topic) is to pony up the extra cash to paint the ceilings and baseboards/moldings/door frames. It will really give it a more finished look.
Also, I've never heard of a color consultant. :)
Paint. Definitely paint. Paint now. You're right -- it will be so much harder to paint later, and if you don't paint, you'll be staring at those walls all day wishing you did :-)
ReplyDeleteI think painting also makes it more "yours." (Not that buying the place didn't already to that.) I've always wanted to go for more vibrant colors, but I tend to go safe in the end. Intrigued by bringing in a consultant. Can't wait to see what you do!
