"The Blue Castle" by L.M. Montgomery (re-read)

My L.M. Montgomery Readathon group on Facebook recently finished its chapter-by-chapter read of "The Blue Castle," the only book Montgomery wrote that's set completely outside of Prince Edward Island (in the Muskoka district of Ontario -- today known as prime cottage country). I read the book earlier last fall myself, before our group read began, and reviewed it here

I won't go into a plot summary again -- I did so in my previous review.  But I will repeat that this is one of my favourite LMM novels, and perhaps one of my favourite books ever. I first read it when I was about 12, I think, and I've re-read it several times in the years since then. This latest read & discussion pointed out some of the book's flaws -- but also deepened my appreciation of its merits. (Isn't that what book clubs are supposed to do?)

5 stars on Goodreads (again)(4.5 stars, rounded up).  :)

We'll find out this weekend what our next Montgomery book will be!

This was Book #7 read to date in 2021 (and Book #2 finished in February), bringing me to 19% of my 2021 Goodreads Reading Challenge goal of 36 books. I am (for the moment, anyway...!) 3 books ahead of schedule. :)  You can find reviews of all my books read to date in 2021 tagged as "2021 books."

  1. I love reading your book reviews. You also got me excited for when I get my books out of storage and can re-read some of my childhood favorites. <3
