#MicroblogMondays: Signs I'm getting older

  • I threw my back out a few days ago (& despite warm showers, Robax, heating pads, arnica & essential oil rubs, it's still not back to normal). :p
  • My left knee has been giving me grief for several years now.
  • Dh & I yell "What?" "WHAT?? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" to each other from separate rooms. ;)
  • It's been a while since I had a decent night's sleep. :p
  • I still carry cash (& use it for most purchases under about $30).
  • We still have (& use) a landline.
  • I gave my vinyl collection to our nephew, but I still buy & listen to music on CDs and radio vs digital/streaming.
  • I wear sensible shoes and won't even look at anything with a heel more than an inch high, even for dressy wear.
  • I'm seeing styles in the stores that I wore when I was in high school, 40+ years ago.
  • Another one of my high school classmates passed away recently. :(
  • My friends are all becoming grandmothers.
  • If we're not talking about children/grandchildren, we're talking about our aging parents and what to do with them (if we're still lucky enough to have them).

  1. There are multiple items on this list that sound like they could be written... by me :-) Except I am the only one with hearing loss in the house so the yelling is one sided. I give you a high five for being old ladies.

    *And friends becoming grandparents...again*

Sending calm and kind thoughts to your back and knee :-)

  4. I’m with Mel...a lot of these things are me too! And Geochick, heck yeah for the sensible shoes piece! Amen sister!
Recently a friend who is my age who had her daughter when we were starting in our field just had a grandchild. So yeah....oof!

  5. This made me smile, because other than the CD vs streaming music, this is the story of my life. (Though it was my cousin the same age not the schoolmate who died.) It helps to know we're all going through the same things.

    Bad backs and knees suck.

  6. Heh heh.. I'm getting there too. Only recently we gave up our landline and I'm trying to go digital with my money. As for sensible shoes, I have long endorsed spending ones life in sneakers.

  7. I spend a lot of my time singing "I can't hear you!" to my family.

  8. I am with you on so many of these! I feel like once I got into my 40s, things just sort of sped up towards decrepitness. :) I like to think of my carrying cash as a sort of charming vintage thing, although lots of small businesses really appreciate that because of credit card fees. An ice cream place we love peppered their walls with super cranky signs saying, "LAST YEAR WE SPENT $8,000 ON CREDIT CARD FEES, CASH IS GREATLY APPRECIATED" only it was more demanding and sort of obnoxious, because okay, that sucks, but then make your minimum credit card purchase $10, or don't take credit cards, or think, WOW, paying $8,000 in credit card fees means I made a LOT of money last year!"

I feel like just spending this much time thinking about how much this annoys me means I'm getting older. :) Totally going to be a crotchety old dame.

40s brought me orthotics, high blood pressure medicine, even crunchier knees, lowback pain, adn lots more gray hair. Although it also brought me not giving a crap about my gray hair, preferring sensible shoes so I don't have horrible, swollen feet later in the day, and enjoying gentle exercise. :)
I'm glad we can all get older together, in different stages but still together. I feel so much better about yelling "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" at Bryce now...

  9. Ohhh, several of these are starting to become very familiar. The CDs - I have a large collection and categorically refuse to get rid of them (though I did take them out of cases and put them into binders a few years ago to take up less space) so I hear you there. And the shoes...yes. I've really never worn high heels much (5 ft 10 inches in bare feet) but around 30 I just quit wearing anything at all over about that inch because I can't walk in them without aching the next day ;).
