The road less travelled....

Hmmmmm.... What do you think?  (I have some thoughts of my own, but would love to hear yours!)

  1. Well, I hate crowds, so the road less travelled seems more appealing to me. But there are many roads, and some of them are good and some are not. As they say...your mileage may vary.

  2. Hmmmm....context is everything, of course. There is an assumption here that people have choice on a full buffet of options. As we know, sometimes choices are taken off the buffet table. It's not necessarily they people wouldn't have wanted that option.

It's a bit painful, this strip. Seems to come from a place of privilege.

  3. I like Lori's comment.

It's all very well to choose the road less travelled, but some of us are kicked onto it! That said, I agree that the lack of conformity is a real freedom, and I relish it.

  4. This must be hard for those taking the road less travelled because they were forced to do so, especially if they haven't had the time to get used to it yet.

After travelling this road for nearly five years, I try to see the advantages. I actually cut a page from a magazine with a quote from Pippi Longstocking that goes as follows: "Freedom means that you don't have to do the same as everybody else". I do try to adopt this point of view because I find it positive. But of course it cannot becalled freedom if you don't really have a choice, and I very much felt that way for the two first years... Embracing the advantages has come a lot later.

  5. I always loved the title of your blog. "The road less travelled"... we didn't chose to take this road, but naming our life this way sounds like an empowerment to me, because I hate conformism :-)
