#MicroblogMondays: While I'm alive...

(Mel recently asked us what we want to do before we die/while we're alive. I thought my answer might make a good microblog post. ;)  Slightly edited -- and bullet-pointed, of course. ;)   )
  • I want to travel more, with England/Scotland/Ireland, Scandinavia, Italy and other parts of Europe at the top of my list, as well as PEI & Newfoundland, in my own country.
  • I want to take dh to New York City (and I REALLY want him to like it, so he’ll go back with me, again & again ;) ).
  • I want him to take me on a surprise trip, ANYWHERE, even just for the weekend. (I’ve always loved the commercial where the wife is dropping her husband off at the airport -- & he holds up two airplane tickets. ;) )
  • I want to put together my family tree research into some semblance of a book & publish it for my relatives -- and I want at least a few of them to care and be excited about it.
  • I want to meet more of my blogging & other online friends in real life.
  • I want to see a woman president of the United States (frankly, I thought I’d see one before I ever saw a black man elected to the post…!) and another female prime minister of Canada (who gets to stay in office longer than three months).
  • I (REALLY) want to see the Donald Trumps & Doug Fords of the world get their just desserts :p and for some semblance of sanity and decency to be restored to public life.
I could ramble on, but I guess that’s as good a place as any to end. Am I asking for too much??

What would be on your list?

  1. What an awesome list!
Question: does dh know about your wish for a surprise trip?

    1. Ummm, I think so? But I am the travel planner in the family. I don't think he'd even know where to start to plan something. :p And his family is THE WORST at keeping secrets/surprises... I think they're genetically incapable of doing it, lol.

  2. Maybe I should amend that to "I want him to take me on a surprise trip -- without having to ask or nag for it" lol. ;)

  3. Oooh that last one. Me too. Hope about telling DH that you'd like him to surprise you this year. Anywhere. Anytime. He chooses the place, makes all the arrangements, and you wake up one morning with a great surprise. Tell him you'll check in in October if he hasn't gotten to it yet, or he'll never hear about it again except in the form of praise and thankfulness if he does it before that point.

  4. Oh yes to the last two, yes yes! And I want to meet you in the physical world! I think we are mere hours away... I hope you go to NYC and you both enjoy it immensely. And a surprise trip... How fun! That sounds awesome (although would cause me a lot of anxiety if I was the one surprised, I don't do so well with surprises...). Great list!

  5. Great list! Love the travel goals, especially. Maybe write a list with the dreams you can attain, and hang it somewhere visible--so you are gently reminded to keep them top of mind? I did that this year's goals and I've been more focused on them. :)

  6. I love your list, except that NZ wasn't included in your first item.

I had to laugh at the surprise trip idea. I've had this dream for a long time - I too am the travel planner of the two of us. My sister-in-law claims she also wants this, but then she vetoes any suggestions her husband makes for trips, and I don't think she would trust him even if he did organise something!

And yes to the last two wishes (as I sit smugly here in NZ under our third female PM).

    1. Well, let's try a couple of 7-10 hour flights before we tackle the 20+ hour trips, shall we?? ;) I think the longest flight I've ever taken was 5 hours to Vancouver/Seattle. Living in Toronto I'm pretty lucky because you can fly to just about any major centre in Canada, and a lot of places in the U.S., direct, without transfers, in 5 hours or less.

  7. I love your list! You could totally publish a book of your genealogy research, even if just on VistaPrint (or similar) and purchase enough copies just for your family.

My 2019 conference travel schedule (for work) may include Toronto, and honestly, you were my first thought when I saw it! We'll have to see though, because two weeks after the Toronto conference, I'll be jetting off to Finland for a couple of weeks (also for work), so the timing isn't ideal.

    1. DEFINITELY let me know if you are going to be in Toronto!! & we could at the very least do coffee/lunch/dinner! I don't live anywhere near downtown (which is where most conferences are), but it is easily accessible now that the new subway extension is open. :) (And if you're not downtown, I will get dh to play chauffeur, lol. ;) )
